Woven Turquoise Cab

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

This one was very tough on my fingers. Yikes! The most difficult part was shaping the weaved wires to follow the shape of the cab and holding the shape together while making the bail. Imagine having to handle 14 wires on top there.
I am reminding myself to use finer wires in my next project. For this one, I used 22ga and 26ga for weaving.

Can you Spot the Difference?

Can you spot the difference? Still experimenting with Chinese Knot like last night.

Close up of the two different knots. Which one do you like better? I like both of them! :)

Experimenting with Chinese Knots

Thursday, February 26, 2009

Experimented with two Chinese Knot tonight. Been a bit slow with my wires lately so this is a nice break. This first one is from Corra's tutorial for Zhu Earrings. Instead of 28ga, I tried it out with 26ga wire and of course its a bit tough because with this knotting, the wire is treated like a thread...Not very happy with the outcome but ok for a first try :) This is not a ring or earring. Just an experimental piece.

This is the snowflakes knot. This time around I use 25ga and needless to say, it is tougher but manageable. I think thicker wire like 23ga would look better.

A Ring and a Pair of Earring

Saturday, January 03, 2009

I completed three projects today. One was posted earlier and here's the other two - seahorse tail earrings and a simple pearl nest ring. This time around, I employ Soumak Weave for the seahorse tail earrings compared to the previous one where I used the figure "8" weave.

Samsara Mandala - A nod to Erin

Wednesday, December 31, 2008

There are many wire jewelry artists that I admire and one of them is Erin of EarringsbyErin. Erin create beautiful wire wrap jewelry based on New Zealand Maori art and carvings as well as its flora and fauna. I love her clean and symmetrical creations. Thank God she now shares her wire wrapping skill/technique by publishing tutorials as well. I recently purchased her Moana Hoop Earring Tutorial but yet to try it out. Sooooon...... New Year "to do list" :)
A customer of mine is attracted to her Samsara Mandala pendant when I showed her Erin's creations. She requested that I create something similar. I didn't promise her but said will try as I have yet to try out her tutorial.
This pendant looks simple but took the longest time for me - almost two days. The longest time was spent for measuring all the separate pieces that formed the pendant. Then its the wire wrapping which need to be done carfully so that all the separate pieces are spaced out evenly and the shape stays.
At closeup, the pendant looks like a starfish.
This pendant measures 5.5cm in diameter and created with 20ga and 28ga wires.

Thank you Erin for the inspirations.

Wire Wrapped Seahorse's Tails - Earrings

Wednesday, December 24, 2008

This wire wrapped and weaved pair of earrings are to be paired with the seahorse pendant completed and posted yesterday.
They don't look like seahorse but resemble the the seahorse tail :D - simple enough as requested.

Facing the Cobra II

Sunday, December 21, 2008

This time around I made sure I snap lots of photos of this 2nd Braided Cuff (Facing the Cobra II). Reason being I forgot how I wire wrapped and weaved the first Facing the Cobra Cuff. Yeah! It happens all the time...:).
Anyway, this 2nd cuff turned out better than the first one. Took me longer this time around because while wrapping it, I don't know how it should finish. It took shape as I work along.

Simply wire woven hoops earrings. This is my first hoops.

Back to Wire Weaving and Adjustable Ring

Sunday, December 14, 2008

This is sort of like a challenge for me. A customer requested for a cab wrap ala Eni's Square Cab Ring but it has to be adjustable ala Louise's woven wave bypass ring. Was not sure whether I can do it or not but I gave it a try last night and Yippi! its possible.
As can be seen here, the square bead is wrapped according to Eni's Square Cab Ring method while the shank is according to Louise's adjustable woven ring method.
It was not easy but it is possible. Planning to make another one again.

Heart in Heart, Wire Woven Heart Pendant

Monday, September 22, 2008

This wire woven heart is a commissioned piece, completed late last night and shipped out this morning to its new owner.

I call it Heart in Heart as there is a smaller heart inside the bigger one. Really love this piece and was so tempted to keep it for myself :) I enjoyed the weaving (with 28ga stainless steel wire) so much that I am planning to use this technique more in future.

Wire Weaving

Saturday, June 21, 2008

Spent whole day today weaving wires. Something I have been wanting to make till today...weaving 3 wires together. Weaving with 29ga stainless steel wire is quite manageable. The weaving turned out quite neat and tight.
The first pix is a trial piece while the second pix is the finished piece. Can't show the whole piece yet....:P
