"Accidental" Wire Jewelry Artist

"Accidental" Wire Jewelry ArtistIntroducing Rachel Schoen, my niece in-law, the Accidental Wire Jewelry Artist! In case, just in case you wonder about her looks, she is half Chinese and half German. This beautiful 10 yrs old is from Calgary, Canada. She is on holiday here in Kuching with her parents. They have been busy traveling here and there (in between their Kuching stay, they have traveled to Sabah, Singapore and Bali) and shall be spending the last two weeks here in Kuching before heading home next week. Look at how busy and hardworking she is with all the wire, tools and beads. She is my “first student” **smile**. She is a very fast learner I must say. I started by teaching her how to bend a simple “p” loop and she perfected it after several tries only. Bending the loop at 90° so that it will hold the beads in place, she has no problem forming the wire wrap loop. A bit loose on the wrapping but still they are unique and beautiful on their own ways. Now that she has learned how to use the tools to wrap and twist the wire, her father is quite worried about his tools at home. I would say, he should be more worried about his $$, as she will need them to buy new and more suitable tools, wire and beads. After that, there is no stopping……its addictive. Here are some pictures of Rachel's first works. All of them are earrings and she named her first pair the "Accidental Earring". That is why I call her the "Accidental Wire Jewelry Artist". Looks like she has been bitten by the wire jewelry bug from Borneo.wire wrapped earrings by Rachelwire wrapped earrings by Rachelwire wrapped earrings by Rachel

Memory Wire Weekend

Memory Wire Bracelets with various beadsMemory Wire Bracelets with various beadsMemory Wire Bracelets and Earrings with various beads Memory Wire Bracelets with various beadsAs the title indicated, this weekend is memory wire weekend. Me, sister in-law and her daughter, Rachel were busy whole day today making memory wire bracelets and some matching earrings. When done, we realized that we have three main categories, the "black & white collection", "blue & black collection" and "red & black collection". Most likely because we have lots of black beads.....Rachel is very please with her work and pieces and I must say she is an up and coming wire jewelry artist. I will show her works in the next post. Psst! I am afraid she is getting addicted already. She worked till 9:30 pm just now.

Jade Koru from New Zealand

jade koruThis New Zealand jade koru is a present from Ahmee (short for mommy), who is back from Christchurch NZ for a holiday. Koru is believed to depicts a new beginning, growth and harmony. What an appropriate gift as I am really hoping for a new beginning and growth.... I am planning to wire wrap this koru as the string doesn't look that strong. The jade of New Zealand is generally called greenstone, legacy of the European explorer who came to NZ in the 18th Century not realizing they were jade. There are more beautiful pieces at the jadefactory in NZ.

Talking about Dream

I just mentioned about my dream and this is what I came across at home furniture - storage beds. This platform bookcase bed comes with plenty of storage, dresser, mirror and night stand package. Plenty of additional storage space within the bed frame is unique and I can imagine how useful it is for my wire jewelry tools, beads and pretties. The bed is of quality hardware, solid wood and classic oak finish. Talking about dying surrounded by beads (my previous post), this set will be very suitable for all my beads, cabs, gemstones as well as my wire jewelry work. This is much! much! better than the old building in my dream!

The first thing I notice about Furniture From Home is its neatness, clean looking and navigational friendly site. The pages download time is quite fast for a site with lot of pictures. It is very easy to look around and find pieces your are interested in. The main menu is categorized into Bedroom Sets, Living Room Sets, Dining Room Sets, Home Office Furniture, Leather Furniture, virtually every furniture you need for your home is available at Furniture From Home. If that is not easy enough, the site also offers searches based on room, style and color categories. From the Home Office Furniture, my favorite is the Rustic Black Traditional Home Office Desk. This set will be very suitable for my work as well as hobby or jewelry work. It can function as a two in one set - for work and for hobby. An their Living Room Furniture, there are more than 100 sets. Its hard to make up your mind with these many choices. Pricing is a bit on the high side but it goes hand in hand with quality. There are also many items on sale with discount up to 50% on certain pieces such as the Queen Storage Bed I mentioned earlier. The furniture tips at the bottom right hand side of the page is very useful especially if you are planning to buy from Furniture From Home or you just want to find practical and cost saving ways to take care of your furniture.

Dream About Beads

This addiction of mine is affecting my sleep and sub-conscious mind. Or is it because in the past few weeks I have been surrounded by beads from Canada and US? I don't know but last night I dreamed I was shopping or window shopping for beads in a town (not sure where it was but the building I entered was quite old). While looking around, the building started to shake - it's earthquake!
The last thing I remembered I was thinking "Oh! No! I am going to die surrounded by all these beads!" Bizarre.

Another Pearl Necklace Set

Wire wrapped Pearl Necklace SetWire wrapped Pearl EarringsWire wrapped Pearl Earrings Last weekend was pearl weekend. Here is another set of pearl necklace and earring. This one is a mixture of natural and blue colored pearl. I like the wrap on the earring. This kind of wrap is idea i copied from Deryn of Something Sublime. Basically what I did is coil the wire round and round and round until you I get the desired thickness. Here, I used 23g wire for the wraps.
