Up and Coming Wire Jeweler in the House

Introducing someone who has shown interest in this thing called Wire Jewelry.

He did play around with wire and made me these 2 pairs of 'S' shaped earrings when he's 4 years old.

He is now 17 years old. Time really flies while they are growing.

He is slowly taking interest in creating wire jewelry again.

Very slowly as he will be sitting for his exam soon.

Here are some of his earlier wire wrapped pieces with stainless steel, copper and brass wires. They were his 2018 year end long school holiday projects. Most of them are practice pieces. Haha, yeah, it took me that long to post them today.

This guy is good with crafting and working with his hands. In his own words, he likes creating "original designs" e.g. wooden crossbow, Katana, knives, mechanical thingy, etc.

Those are for another day posting.

Wire Wrapped Bookmark - Little Fish with Pearl

The last one from the bookmarks collection is this fish-themed bookmark.
The eye is wrapped with a turquoise 4mm bicone Swarovski crystal.
A little pearl sits at the bottom near the stomach to act as a stopper.

Wire Wrapped Bookmarks - Flora and Heart Themed

Continuation of the wire wrapped bookmarks from last few days.
Here is a closer look at the flora and heart-themed bookmarks.
Look at the whole thing here - http://www.wireblissmei.com/2019/12/beaded-wire-wrapped-bookmarks.html
Instead of flat, these bookmarks' end stick out on top of the book.
I use 15ga stainless steel wire for all of them.

Wire Wrapped Bookmarks - Flat Ends

Happy First day of the year 2020 to all WireBliss followers, readers, visitors.
I hope this new decade would be a great, happy, healthy, prosperous and successful one for all of you.

To start off the new year will be the continuation of yesterday's post for bookmarks.
We have a closer look at the "flat" bookmarks.
As you can see, the beads sit flat on the surface when in use.

Beaded Wire Wrapped Bookmarks

Is reading books a dying art?
The answer can be yes or no.
With the internet and modern devices such as computers, smartphones, tablets, ebook readers, etc, etc., our reading habit changes from the physical form of reading materials to digital forms instead.
It's so easy to access millions of reading material online and read to our heart content...of course if we have the time :)
So, what is the use of these beaded wire wrapped bookmarks if we read fewer and fewer books?
Well, some of us still love to hold and read physical books on our hands.
The feeling of holding a book, the texture of the paper is just different from reading an ebook.
Like me...hehe....but I must admit reading more online though.

The wire bending to shape the bottom of the bookmark can be torturous. Yikes. Involve lots of finger and wrist power :D
Still not finish editing and choosing the pics...will continue later.

Wire Bookmarks + Alphabets

With all the tablets, pablets, smartphones, computers and e-readers around, I thought bookmarks is an "extinct" species already.

Who needs the old bookmark when you don't read "physical" books, novels, etc. anymore?
I am the first to admit that I have not read a physical book for a very very long time.
8 years maybe.

However, recent request for my wire bookmarks give me some hope that the old bookmark would still be around for a little while :D
Here are a few completed last week.

Wire Jewelry - Wire Bookmark

Few weeks back I managed to find and purchase some 16g stainless steel wire (soft). Been looking high and low for this wire for a while. You know wire of this size (especially soft one) is really hard to come by so I was very tempted to buy the whole coil.
Refrain! refrain! :)

On the other hand, I have lots of 16g hard stainless steel wire but they are really tough to work with, if not near impossible (for me at least). I think I mentioned this before, so just bear with me. DH use them for his fishing "accessories" and of course arms and fingers are stronger.

Back to this bookmark, I find that this wire size is the best for this kind of wire bookmark. Thinner wire will feel very flimsy even with hammering.
With hammering, this bookmark is very sturdy and would withstand your reading habit.
This one is adorned with pearl and 8mm Swarovski Crystal and the bottom part with 3 short hammered wires.

Going Extinct Soon......

I may be wrong but with all the mobile trends, ereaders, smartphones, ebooks, tablets, pads, apps, etc.....less and less people are reading the good old fashion "physical' books, therefore the good old fashion bookmarks is going extinct sooner than you expected.

Here are a few last ones....kakaka...the last handmade wire wrapped bookmarks with beads and crystals at WireBliss :)

They are made of 16ga wires, half hard and hard.
I have to resort to the hard wire when I ran out of the half hard wire.
But duh, they are reeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaly tough to work with.
I was having a very hard time bending them (notice those with less bending and shaping - those are hard wire!).
I thought I'am going to break my pliers or fingers working on them.
Guess it is really going extinct at WireBliss as I can't find the half hard 16ga wire anymore and I don't plan to work on the hard 16ga wire again...too painful.
The only good thing about them for this project is that there is no need to harden them with hammering. Well, maybe just a little bit.

Now that I think about it, I forgot about my copper wire.
I guess I can try that out some other time.
Its way softer and I have some thick ones stash somewhere.

Wire Wrapped Bookmarks

As much as I love to read, I found that most of the books that I've been planning to read been sitting in the rack collecting dust, some for years...I can't remember exactly when I read a whole book.
Managed a quarter of Eat, Play, Love sometime last year. Before I can finish it, I got distracted.
Those are books that I can physically hold.
There are also a collection of ebooks, emagazines sitting somewhere in my hard drive and ereader, waiting for me...wonder when I can get started with them.

Anyway, for those who love to read, here are few bookmarks completed recently.
Wire wrapped bookmarks with pearl, rose quartz and heart amethyst

Material used - 19ga stainless steel wire and various beads and gemstones.
Involved lots of hammering to harden the wire.
Designs are endless, just work on your imagination..e.g. shapes such as stars, triangles, squares, zig zag, etc. etc.
